As you can imagine, sports are quite wide-spread in the region, but the variety of sports is quite small. The most common of them all is football, or American soccer.
Now I know what you’re thinking, and yes there is not a highly successful nation team from here, but that doesn’t stop us from enjoying the game, and definitely doesn’t stop us from spectating events.
The English Premier League is a professional league for men’s association football teams, which was formed in 1992 and consists of 20 teams. At the top of the English football league system, is the country’s primary football competition and it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English Football League. Seasons run from August to May with teams playing 38 matches each, totaling 380 matches in the season. Majority of the games are played on the weekend days in the afternoon and then the rest are played during weekday evenings. With a potential TV audience of 4.7 billion people, the Premier League is the most watched football league in the world, being broadcast in 212 territories to 643 million homes. In 2014 and 2015, during season, the average match attendance exceeded 36,000 people, the second highest of any professional football league. During the course of a season, each team plays the others twice, once at their home stadium and once at their opponents home stadium, you can see many of these games on a Manchester United live stream. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw, with no points being awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored and if the teams are still equal, they are deemed to occupy the same position. If there is a tie for the championship, a play off match at a neutral venue decides the rank.
Over the past five seasons, based on performances in European competitions, the Premier League ranks third in the UEFA coefficients of leagues. Only 6 teams out of 47 have won the title since the inception of the Premier League in 1992. The teams are Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, and Leicester City, who are currently the champions who won the title in 2015-2016.
